Homeowners in Atlantic and Cape May counties have depended on Miami Somers home improvement products and for quality service after the sale for many years. With an emphasis on quality, as the true measure of value, Miami Somers continues to thrive in an ever changing marketplace.
A Reputation Founded Upon Years of Service
An article written about Miami Somers in the Atlantic City Press over 35 years ago describes homeowners as more demanding than ever. The article goes on to say that Miami Somers will meet all of these expectations with high quality materials and workmanship. Success and growth at Miami Somers have been driven by a tremendous commitment to our clients. Our success and reputation have been the direct result of the policies of business integrity and sound, sincere service. These are the foundations on which our Company’s business structure has been, and continues to be, built on.
Unexpected Origins
Miami Somers Company was founded in 1950 by Herb Luckenback. It was Mr. Luckenback’s original intent to open a motel along a rapidly developing Route 9 corridor in Somers Point, New Jersey. As the story goes, Mr. Luckenback took a trip to Florida to purchase some windows for the motel. He became acquainted with the Miami Window Corporation and decided that he would become a Miami Window dealer instead. Miami Somers Company, the original manufacturers and warehouse distributors of Miami Window products in Somers Point, was born.
Expansion and Change
Later in the 50’s, the company was bought and expanded by Earl J. Sambrook. The Company now offered screen doors and replacement windows. It was Mr. Sambrook who truly pioneered the installation of thousands of awning and jalousie type windows in South Jersey. Mr. Sambrook was quoted saying, “With quality products and integrity, the value of Miami Somers Company to area homeowners is unrivaled. We are looking forward to the future with great optimism despite the prophets of doom who can see only the dark side of the economic picture.”
Optimism Through Changing Times
In the mid-70s, Miami Somers was purchased by Richard Grieshaber Sr., who built second-floor office space and continued the expansion by adding custom-built patio and porch enclosures of glass and screen as well as aluminum siding to the Company’s product line.
In 1986, Richard Grieshaber Sr. retired and his son, Richard Grieshaber Jr. bought the business and continued to introduce unique products, while remaining true to the Company’s core philosophy: quality is the true measure of value.
In 1996 Richard Jr. met Charles Zuschnitt, a sales representative for a leading retractable awning company. Together they forged a relationship based on trust and respect. Richard embraced the motorized awning concept and began an extensive marketing campaign for awnings. In 2000, opportunity presented itself and the torch was successfully passed once again. Charles purchased the company in 2001 and immediately catapulted the company to where it is today. Once again, with the economic uncertainty that abounds, we are optimistic that with energy efficient, quality products and superior service we stand ready to assist our growing list of clients who are looking for the best value in the remodeling industry.
